It’s amazing how many organisations still rely on paper for their information management. The paper is then stored and organised in the traditional way – in filing cabinets, drawers, storage boxes and on shelves. This is usually placed in basements, storerooms or off site at expensive records management archives.
Just to compound the problem, electronic documents such as spreadsheets and emails get printed out. This results in piles of excess paperwork, which in turn adds to the storage problem. All in all, every department in the business is slowed down and inefficiencies rapidly develop.
Many organisations think that they are covered for document management because they have networked electronic storage on desktop computers and servers. Unfortunately this is far from the truth and homegrown archives are both unmanageable and unscalable.
